Religions & Theology

Religions and Theology at Manchester has the highest international reputation for its research. Awarded the top 5* in both 1996 and 2001 Research Assessment Exercises, from 2001-2008 it was the only unit in the UK to hold a rating of 6*.  In the 2008 Assessment, there was no directly equivalent score for individual Departments.  Manchester had the fourth largest submission in the UK, and was placed 6th nationally for overall quality.  We were the leading Department for Religions and Theology, those ahead of it being overwhelmingly concerned with Christian Studies (or Jewish Studies) alone; 65% of our research was rated world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*).
