We are proud of having a high calibre of student and of maintaining a very strong performing tradition while cultivating new musical techniques, musicology, composition and cutting-edge technologies.

Our MusB is a well-established and highly regarded three-year degree programme, which admits students of a high calibre. We are proud to maintain a very strong performing tradition while cultivating new musical techniques, composition, new approaches to musicology, and cutting-edge technologies. The programme is designed to stimulate students’ curiosity and enthusiasm to study music in its practical, creative and intellectual contexts, and to explore the inherent interconnections between these three aspects of music, and also between music and the broader social, cultural and scientific contexts in which it is created, performed and heard. It is structured to allow the maximum flexibility and choice, so that students can both explore aspects of the discipline that are new to them, and also develop their own interests and specialised skills within this diverse subject area.

The MusB is designed to prepare you for many potential careers, including professional performance, composition (instrumental and electroacoustic), sound design, musicology, ethnomusicology, teaching, concert and arts administration, music journalism, broadcasting, publishing and many non-music fields. Details of the types of career in which our graduates succeed, and of the employability skills embedded in our degree programmes, together with profiles of some of our recent alumni, can be found at our Careers and Employability webpages.

Full details of the MusB, including entry requirements, selection criteria and course content, are available from our MusB admissions pages. For information on the Joint Course, click here. Information on how to apply, fees and funding, and the university’s services and facilities can be found on the undergraduate admissions webpages for the School of Arts Histories and Cultures.
