Welcome to Manchester International Beethoven Conference 2012.

Beethoven has been an iconic figure of Western culture since the early 19th century, and continues to be the focus of research across a wide range of academic disciplines. These include biographical/contextual studies, textual/analytical studies and interpretative/performing issues. The aim of this three-day conference is to bring together scholars and graduate students in all fields of Beethoven research to explore new and recent developments.

The conference will include a keynote address by Sieghard Brandenburg, research papers, a roundtable on 'Performing Beethoven', an all-Beethoven recital by the renowned pianist Julian Jacobson, and performances of chamber works by students at the Royal Northern College of Music.

The Manchester International Beethoven is hosted by the University of Manchester, in association with the Institute of Musical Research,artsmethods@manchester, and the Royal Musical Association, and with additional support from Forsyths and the Royal Northern College of Music.
