Teaching and learning

There are varied approaches to teaching, with a range of different styles, including lectures, seminar, small group tutorials and virtual web-based seminars. We encourage students to undertake independent study at every level.

A full listing of course units can be found for each subject at the following webpage:

http://www.currentstudents.arts.manchester.ac.uk/ug/courseselection2010/courseunits.php

In the box halfway down labelled 'Code Search', select 'HIST' and click on 'Submit'.

Please note that units are reviewed each year and for 2011 may vary slightly (in content or availability) from those listed.

Coursework and assessment

Assessment procedures in different courses vary, but our basic objective is to achieve a good balance between formal examinations, continuous assessment and project work. The third year dissertation is a major piece of original work, which counts 25% towards the final overall mark.
