Research:
My Ph.D thesis was an intellectual history of shell-shock in First World War Britain. This explored medical attitudes to human mind and identity as revealed in debates on the war neuroses, and argued that the experience of war did not cause fundamental changes in British psychology and psychiatry. I am currently turning this thesis into a book, incorporating new research on medical education in the early years of the twentieth century, and psychological discourse after the war.
