Kaye Mitchell
My general field of research is concerned with twentieth century and contemporary literature and critical theory, but my current research projects focus in particular upon issues around sexuality. At present I'm working on two articles: one, on the sexual politics of 1950s lesbian pulp fiction, its competing tendencies of excess and regulation, and the significance of its rediscovery in the 1990s and since; the other, on representations of female sexual masochism in contemporary literature. I'm also in the planning stages of a book, tentatively entitled Unintelligible Desire, which will investigate the relationship between sexuality and signification in contemporary literature and theory, the ways in which certain kinds of 'perverse' and 'queer' sexual practices are represented as 'unintelligible'.
My publications include a book on Scottish author A.L. Kennedy, a forthcoming book on authorship and intention, and articles on Alan Hollinghurst, B.S. Johnson, and feminist sci-fi.
