English and American Studies boasts specialists in all areas of both disciplines and our achievements in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise placed us a joint second in the UK. 

Our undergraduate programmes offer a diverse range of opportunities for studying Literature and Culture from every historical period.

The American Studies programme offers a unique combination of excellence in teaching and research, unmatched in the UK. The programme was ranked second nationally in the 2009 Guardian league table.

This stunning achievement reflects our commitment to excellence in traditional research strengths as well as our expansion into new areas. EAS at Manchester has one of the richest and most diverse research cultures in the country. We are especially keen that our postgraduates should benefit from the unique experience we offer.
