ANNOUNCEMENT AND FIRST CIRCULAR (May 2006)

The Ninth International Conference on Ancient Latin Medical Texts will take place at Hulme Hall, Manchester, England, from Wednesday to Saturday, 5-8 September 2007 (next year).

Outline plans
It is provisionally foreseen that there will be an opening lecture on the Wednesday evening, and a closing lecture before lunch on the Saturday. In between there will be space for at least 25 shorter papers, more if we divide into parallel sessions, although that is not envisaged at this stage. The conference languages are English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Latin. The second circular, to be circulated in autumn 2006, will invite offers of papers (to be submitted before 1st February 2007).

Provisional plans include a reception in the Manchester Museum, and one in the newly reopened John Rylands Library Deansgate, each with a tour of items of interest to conference participants. A conference dinner is planned for the Friday evening, and an excursion for the Saturday afternoon.

Accommodation and catering
It is foreseen that most conference participants will be resident in en-suite rooms in Hulme Hall itself. There will be room in the Hall for (at least) 50 resident participants. The Hall will provide all meals from the evening meal on the Wednesday (5 September) to lunch on the Saturday (8 September), inclusive.

Approximate cost
The all-inclusive cost per person for accommodation in Hall and all meals from Wednesday evening to Saturday lunch, including the conference fee for room hire, etc., and the receptions, is likely to be in the region of £250.00(pounds sterling). A more precise figure will be included in the second circular. It will also be possible to be a non-resident participant; to attend for only part of the conference, paying pro rata; and to book bed and breakfast in the Hall for the subsequent night of Saturday 8 September.
