Information for MA students
There are a huge variety of reasons people choose to complete an MA: in order to progress to a PhD programme, because it is required for their chosen career, to 'upgrade' their BA, to make them more attractive in the job market or simply because of an interest in the subject area. We recognise this variety and have designed the SAGE programme to be of value to all our students, whatever their needs during the programme or intentions upon completion.
There are no national, University or Faculty requirements for the School to provide a structured training programme for MA students. We believe training is important. We want postgraduates to be successful - whatever that means to each individual. All SAGE MA sessions are aimed specifically at master's level students and provide a basis upon which to build knowledge and expertise. There is no minimum requirement and no expectation that you will attend all of the sessions.
The programme aims to:
- Ensure that postgraduate students understand the differences between a BA and MA programme and how success in an MA is achieved
- Support postgraduates to decide what they want to achieve over the coming year, academic or otherwise, and highlight any opportunities and resources available.
- Supplement and support the MA programme. Each MA programme will provide postgraduates with the specific information and skills required for work in the chosen subject area. SAGE offers opportunities to complement these programmes and provide support in areas not coveredÇ- generic study, academic and research skills.
The main SAGE training for MA students is the MA Lecture Series, which takes place in Semester 1, and the Speed Research Design course, which will take place in January. However, postgraduates are also welcome to take part in many of the other SAGE events which are run throughout the year.
