Research and teaching in the School are supported by rich resources within the University, in the collections of the John Rylands University Library, the Race Relations Archive, the Manchester Museum and the Whitworth Art Gallery, as well as in other distinguished Manchester archives and museums. Just some of the resources available include:

John Rylands University Library
The John Rylands University Library is one of the largest academic libraries in the country. It
holds more than four million separate items, including some of the greatest printed books and manuscripts. It has the largest collection of electronic resources of a UK institution.

Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama
In 2003, Music and Drama moved to the Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama: this purpose-designed venue  provides state-of-the-art facilities for students, including a Postgraduate Common Room and an air-conditioned Postgraduate Computer Cluster. Find out more about the Martin Harris Centre

John Thaw Studio Theatre
The John Thaw Studio Theatre is our main 'laboratory' and is used for many different kinds of performances, rehearsals and workshops. It is equipped with superb technical facilities, including sound-editing and video-editing suites. Particularly valuable as an experimental arena for new and innovative work, it also hosts occasional visits by external theatre companies.

Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall
The Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall seats 350 spectators, and is the primary venue for the concerts and recitals of our fellow staff and students in Music and our string quartet-in-residence Quatuor Danel. It also sometimes hosts interdisciplinary events.

Electroacoustic Music Studios
Building work began on the School of Arts, Histories & Cultures new £2.2 million Electroacoustic Music studios complex in September 2006; it is expected to be complete in the summer of 2007. With cutting-edge design, the new facility promises to be an internationally-renowned centre for the creation of electroacoustic music that will attract students, researchers, composers and artists
from around the globe.

The Lenagan Library
Generously endowed by Ian Lenagan, this reference library complements the extensive facilities of the John Rylands University Library and houses collections in Drama and Music. These consist of book holdings, multiple play texts, CDs, audio tapes, videos and DVDs. A viewing suite (sponsored by the Granada Foundation) and listening facilities are available; on-line catalogue and reference access are also provided.
