School Awards for MA Students
School Awards for Masters Students
In addition to the Research Council funding, there are School-wide competitions for several studentships and bursaries, and each Subject Area in the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures offers a number of bursaries. These School awards come with the opportunity to act as an assistant on a research project or research-related activity within the subject area.
The bursaries are open to both Home/EU and Overseas students, and are awarded for one year of full-time study or pro rata for two years part-time study.
Rylands Achievement Awards
£500 towards fees for University of Manchester graduates with first-class degrees undertaking an MA in the School. No separate application is necessary.
HCRI Bursary
The HCRI MA bursary, worth £5,000, will fund home fees or can be used as partial payment for the overseas fee. It is tenable for one year only. Applicants should state their interest in the award within the funding section of the online application form and also provide a personal statement (max 500 words) outlining why they have chosen to study this particular MA, what they will bring to the course and why they think they should be awarded the bursary. The HCRI MA bursary is awarded based on a number of criteria including previous academic performance, relevant professional experience, reference letters, and the quality of the reflections in the applicant's personal statement. Deadline for applications is 1 June 2012.
Access to Postgraduate Education Bursaries
Two bursaries of £1000 each are available to facilitate access to postgraduate study for students who would not otherwise be able to meet the cost: for example, students whose family responsibilities limit their ability to combine paid work with study. The bursaries are open both to those who hold offers to start a taught postgraduate programme (MA or MusM, full-time or part-time) in September 2011, and to current part-time students who would otherwise have difficulty in completing their programme.
