School Awards for PhD Students
School Awards for PhD Students
In addition to Research Council funding and the PDS awards, we offer a variety of School studentships and bursaries, and each Subject Area in the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures offers a number of studentships and bursaries. These School awards come with the opportunity to teach or assist in research-related activities.
These awards are open to both Home/EU and Overseas students. In the case of fee bursaries, the bursary is set at the level of Home/EU Fees for the relevant programme. Please note that for Overseas students, any fees bursary awarded would reduce the tuition fee payable by the amount of the Home/EU fees. The awards are for three years full time or six years part time (subject to satisfactory progress) for new starters, reduced pro rata for existing students.
University Research Scholar (URS) Awards
Two PhD studentships, offering a contribution to fees set at the relevant Home/EU level for the programme, together with a £7000 stipend. Open to Home and Overseas students.
Overseas Research Student (ORS) Awards
This is a School scheme to replace the scheme previously run by the UK Government. The School offers up to two awards, each paying the difference between Overseas fees and Home/EU fees, to PhD candidates of exceptional merit. Students will also automatically be entered into the competition for the other internal bursaries offered by the relevant subject areas within the School. In most cases, these consist of the payment of UK/EU fees; therefore a student successful in both the ORS competition and a subject area award would receive a fee award for the full overseas fees.
