Students contribute to the Shape of the Sonnet
The University's John Rylands Library on Deansgate will host the exhibition 'A Small Eternity - The Shape of the Sonnet Through Time' from 25 February to 27 June (2009).
The exhibition looks at the sonnet as a poetic form across time, continents and cultures, using sumptuous illuminated books, rare manuscripts and printed editions and writers' letters.
It will be accompanied by a souvenir booklet containing sonnets written by poetry students from the Centre for New Writing.
As the exhibition pays special attention to Shakespeare's sonnets, 500 years after their first appearance in print, the students will also be reading their poems in the library on the bard's birthday, 23 April (1.00 - 2.00pm).
Other writers covered by the exhibition include Petrarch, Vikram Seth, Wilfred Owen, Thomas Wyatt, John Milton, Anthony Burgess, Lynette Roberts, Christina Rossetti, and Elizabeth Jennings.
Exhibition opening times are:
Monday 12.00 - 5.00pm
Tuesday - Saturday 10.00am - 5.00pm
Sunday 12.00 - 5.00pm
