Spotlight on the mundane
Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing and renowned novelist Geoff Ryman appeared on BBC Radio 4's Front Row in May, after Interzone magazine and the Guardian's blog featured the 'mundane' movement he helped found.
As Geoff explained, the genre aims to avoid some of the more typical, fantasy-driven science fiction tropes, in favour of exploring new possibilities which have a real, scientific foundation.
Geoff also discussed the movement's aim to look positively at and value the future, in contrast with more apocalyptic sci-fi styles, pointing out the exciting scientific developments being investigated at this University alone.
