Kaye Mitchell's 'Intention and Text' published

Centre lecturer Kaye Mitchell's latest book, an analysis and critique of intention, has just been published by Continuum Books.

Intention and Text: Towards an Intentionality of Literary Form is the latest in the Continuum Literary Studies series, and has been described by Professor Robert Eaglestone of the University of London as "the best book in recent years on the subject".

The book considers questions including how far an author's intentions determine the meanings of his/her text, and the force a reader's own intention has in the construction of textual meaning.

Kaye said: "My aim was to provide an in-depth analysis and critique of the concept of intention, its uses within the realms of literary theory, aesthetics, philosophy of language, phenomenology and deconstruction, and its potential for redefinition."
