The University of Manchester

Location and facilities

The summer school is run by and based at the prestigious University of Manchester, the UK's largest single-site university and one of the world's leading research institutions.  The University was named 'University of the Year' in the Times Higher Education Supplement Awards in 2005 and by the Sunday Times in 2006.

Manchester is widely regarded as England's second city, and is a thriving centre of culture, sport, business and tourism.  It is a cosmopolitan city with a large student population, and its excellent transport links make it easily accessible from all over the world.  Direct flights are available from US hubs including Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Newark and Philadelphia.

While resident in Manchester you will stay in a single study bedroom at one of the University's Hall of Residence.  Served by many regular buses in and out of the city centre, which pass the University campus, Halls are just eight miles from Manchester's international airport.

The buildings house a common room, TV room and libraries, and are situated in large, lawned grounds.  Ethernet access is available in your room for £5/week, and the campus also offers a 24-hour computer cluster.  Resident staff are on hand to deal with any queries and to ensure your safety and well-being.

Breakfast and dinner will be taken at the Hulme Hall Campus (except during the trip to London) and are included in the summer school price.  Lunch in the University's refectory is also included on teaching days.
