Centre4Museology Media for Teaching, Learning and Engagement
At the Centre for Museology we draw on targeted digital media to enhance the learning experience of our MA , PhD, and
Blackboard: The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) of Blackboard provides students with a dedicated and secure online environment for each of their courses, where they can continue the class discussions and coordinate their group activities and projects.
The Institute for Cultural Practices Dashboard functions as the 'homepage' for online resources and latest news and articles on the museum and cultural sector, which are aggregated automatically in the website. In this way, the Dashboard helps students to keep track of these resources and news and reduces the time they need to spend on searching and locating them.
Museology web bookmarks: this includes bookmarks of websites relevant to Museology and more specifically to issues, topics and courses of the (AGMS). AGMS students add and share bookmarks relevant to their study and courses. In this way, a repository of museologically relevant and more importantly course- and subject-specific web resources is developed - useful primarily to AGMS students and members of staff and hopefully others as well;
Flickr images: Our Flickr site offers students the opportunity to share museum and course-related images. Students and staff share images from fieldtrips and group projects as well as images of museums, exhibitions and displays, which are then discussed in the class.
Mashup Museum Archaeology: this website aggregates automatically web content relevant to postgraduate and undergraduate study of archaeology and museum studies. It is particularly used in the 'Curating Archaeology' route of the option course 'Museum and Gallery Curating'. Mashup Museum Archaeology is a joint project of the Centre for Museology and at the University of Manchester.
ICP Blog: this is the blog of the (ICP) that Centre for Museology students and staff (and other ICP people) use to post reflective and critical posts and reviews on class discussion and current news and developments in the cultural sector.
Twitter: Our Twitter account provides an additional online channel for sharing current news and events at the Centre for Museology and beyond.
The above use of digital media adds to the blended (onsite and online) teaching and learning environment of the postgraduate life at the Centre for Museology. It also aims to respond to the current and emerging challenges and needs of postgraduate study and prepare our graduates for the museum and gallery profession.
