Working Title: Social Media as Contact Zone: Networked communities and art gallery communication
My research explores the ways in which Art Galleries and Museums are adapting their practices in public engagement, to reflect the agency of social and digital media in everyday life. The research practice is to test new models for digital engagement against the existing working practices of the Whitworth Art Gallery's engagement and curatorial programs. It traces how innovations in digital engagement are mediated, not only by the technology, but also by the institution's organisational culture and departmental structure.
