Museology PhD

Degree awarded: PhD

Duration: 36 months full time

Entry requirements: PhD: A First or Upper Second Class Honours degree plus a masters qualification in a relevant subject area, or its overseas equivalent.

Course fees: For entry in the academic year beginning September 2010, the tuition fees are as follows:

  • PhD (full-time)
    UK/EU students (per annum): £3,466
    International students (per annum): £11,300
  • PhD (part-time)
    UK/EU students (per annum): £1,733

Scholarships/sponsorships: For subject areas that hold awards in particular years, UK and EU applicants may enter the AHRC Block Grant Partnership competition (deadline 15th March). The complete list of subject areas covered and the number of awards available in each year is listed here. This is highly competitive, and applicants should discuss applying with their proposed supervisor as soon as possible. Some awards are usually offered by the School or department: see the  school website for current information, or contact the Admissions Administrator. Some awards are reserved for international applicants.

How to apply:

Step 1

It is advised that you contact an academic that you believe will be suitable to supervise your research. You can find the contact details of the academics here

Step 2

Go to the Applicant's Guide to see what supporting documents you will need to submit with your application (Note that the page contains information specific to taught courses. 

Step 3

Download a referee report form and send it to your referees (to those eligible for the AHRC competition *, this reference can also be used in support of the funding application - as opposed to you chasing a separate one).

Step 4

Complete the standard online application form.

Step 5

You will then receive an email confirming that your application has been received. Claire in Admissions will email you if any of your supporting documents are missing.

You will be informed of our decision by email and post.

The standard intake date for the course is September. In exceptional circumstances it may be possible to arrange entry in January; please contact the PhD administrator for further information.
