The Orchestra that Fell to Earth

The Penguin Cafe Orchestra first appeared in 1976 and went on to tour and record extensively throughout the eighties and nineties; pieces such as ‘Music for a Found Harmonium’ and ‘Telephone and Rubber Band’ became well-known through their frequent use in film soundtracks and advertisements. Simon Jeffes, the PCO’s founder, sadly died in 1997. Since then the original line-up has appeared in public on only three occasions in 2007. This concert by ‘The Orchestra that Fell to Earth’ represents a rare opportunity to hear the music of the PCO performed by original members of the ensemble. The line-up includes long standing ‘Penguins’ Geoffrey Richardson, Jennifer Maidman, Steve Fletcher and Annie Whitehead. On percussion will be Liam Genockey of Steeleye Span who also played live with the original PCO in the eighties.
