CIDRA Past Events
CIDRA was launched in 2005 under the direction of Professor Frank Mort.
Professor Sandro Portelli (University of Rome, CIDRA Visiting Professor 2005/6) gave the inaugural lecture on the "Memorialisation of World War II" to a packed Bragg Lecture Theatre on Wednesday 19th October 2005. Professor Portelli spoke engagingly about contradictions in remembering and forgetting the war, the Resistance and liberation, focusing particularly on the non-institutional memories in the immediate post-war years, and our own time, in which there is a new stress on memory and remembering.
