The Sense of Listening

A joint event with CIDRA and AHVS, 7 December, 2-5pm, Whitworth Art Galley Lecture Theatre

The workshop presents a range of diverse papers, performances and discussion on the theme of ‘listening’, in response to Jean-Luc Nancy’s text Listening. In Nancy’s text, ‘listening’ morphs into other senses such as touch, and he discusses the body as an echo-chamber and interrogates the opposition between looking and listening. The event will be introduced by Prof. Carol Mavor [AHVS], with David Toop giving the keynote lecture [David Toop is a senior Research Fellow at the Sound Arts & Design Dept. of the London College of Communication, and currently Visiting Professor at The University of the Arts London].
