Dr Abigail Gilmore, Director of the Centre for Arts Management and Cultural Policy
Programme Director, Arts Management, Policy and Practice
Abi's doctoral research, awarded by the University of Leicester, was on popular music, cultural policy and local music scenes and communities. She has been involved in a range of policy-related academic research projects, including an AHRC funded study of the Millennium Dome, the development of local cultural strategies and creative industries mapping, before going on to work in advisory and consultancy positions to the cultural sector with government departments and non-departmental bodies in the North West, for the last five years. She established the online regional research capability, the Northwest Culture Observatory http://www.northwestcultureobservatory.co.uk and has published in the International Journal for Cultural Policy and Cultural Trends. Research interests include arts, culture and regeneration, the role of academic and applied research in engagement with and management of the arts, cultural mapping and planning methodologies, and comparative models of instrumental cultural policy.

Dr Simon Parry
Teaching Fellow, Arts Management, Policy and Practice
Simon's doctoral research at the University of London examined the arts as public engagement, with a particular focus on intercultural and interdisciplinary practices and work in community and educational contexts. He also has degrees in Modern Languages and Drama. He worked on a variety of theatre projects around Europe and taught at the University of Klagenfurt in Austria before returning to London to work for the medical research charity, the Wellcome Trust, where he led on a range of arts initiatives to promote young people's engagement with science. His recent co-edited publication documents some of this work http://www.wellcome.ac.uk/creativeencounters. He also worked on the development of a new international programme by the Trust to support creative methods in community engagement with health research which has stimulated projects in Africa, India and South America.
