Further PhD funding:
2012 President's Doctoral Scholar Awards
The University of Manchester has launched a further £2.5m investment in PhD training with the creation of the President's Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Awards. These awards are open to all nationalities and research areas.
Applications will be ranked according to two key criteria: the candidate’s academic track-record, and the quality of the research proposal.
* Track-record: Applicants must have a first-class honours degree (or non-UK equivalent), hold or expect to achieve a Masters-level qualification, which we would expect to be at distinction level or equivalent. Additional indicators of academic quality will include prizes awarded and information supplied by the applicant’s referees.
* Research proposal: Proposals will be judged according to their cogency of exposition and evidence of the project’s originality.
See here for full details of President's Doctoral Scholar Award scheme
University Research Scholar (URS) Awards
Two PhD studentships, offering a contribution to fees set at the relevant Home/EU level for the programme, together with a £7000 stipend. Open to Home and Overseas students.
Overseas Research Student (ORS) Awards
This is a School scheme to replace the scheme previously run by the UK Government. The School offers up to two awards, each paying the difference between Overseas fees and Home/EU fees, to PhD candidates of exceptional merit. Students will also automatically be entered into the competition for the other internal bursaries offered by the relevant subject areas within the School. In most cases, these consist of the payment of UK/EU fees; therefore a student successful in both the ORS competition and a subject area award would receive a fee award for the full overseas fees.
